You may find relatively many medieval textiles that are preserved in Sweden, mainly the ones which belonged to the church and the nobilities. Clothing as well as other necessary textiles were used again and again. The same thing was applied to the medieval embroideries, where you can see parts that were reused in new embroideries or having a new function, as with a detail on a purse.

Textiles were during the Middle Ages very appreciated, both regarding its economical value as well as the symbolic that was embroidered.  One example is the altar border from Askeby.  It is a very important historical document which tells about noble families who wished to show they had given their support to the abbey.
